Enjoy Reykjavik City if arrival time allows, and have a stroll through the city central. Iceland's first known settler, Ingólfur Arnarson built his farm where Reykjavík stands today. Reykjavik “Smoky Bay” is named after the steam that rises in columns from the hot springs in the area. There are restaurants, cafés and pubs on every corner in the city central. We can send you recommendations of our favourite places.

Today we head along Iceland's south coast to Landeyjahöfn harbour. The ferry ride from Bakkafjara to the Westman Islands takes only 30 minutes. Heimaey "Home Island" is the largest in the Westman Islands archipelago. We'll spend the day exploring the island. You will be spotting puffins in Stórhöfði "Great Cape", having a hike up a volcanic crater that erupted in 1973. Visit Eldheimar Museum, built around the remains of the eruption, and explore the flora of the new lava field.

Overnight in Vestman Islands, you are welcome to spend the afternoon exploring more of the island on your own.

After a ferry ride back from the Westman Islands, we continue further along the south shore. Enjoy the fantastic view on route to the famous waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. We will then continue to the wonderful Skógar Folk Museum. Next you will see the black sandy Reynisfjara beach with basalt columns rising in the ocean and powerful waves. Dinner and overnight in Vik area for 2 nights.

We travel through Eldhraun “Fire Lava“, created in one of the greatest eruptions in recorded history. We visit the village Kirkjubæjarklaustur and Skaftafell National Park. In Skaftafell you will finally get to see the breath-taking Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon. Enjoy the view of the floating icebergs and the magnificent Vatnajökull Glacier.

We will have dinner in Vik/Kirkjubaejarklaustur, where we stay overnight.

The day begins with a visit to the Lava centre before continueing to Iceland's most famous attractions.

The grand waterfall Gullfoss, the great Geysir, sprouting hot spring and Thingvellir National Park. The beautiful Thingvellir area is where the ancient parliament was set for the first time in 930. The park is situated on the tectonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. You can clearly see the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
