A highlight with historical significance is Thingvellir National Park. The world's first democratic parliament was elected here in 930. The plain lies in a geologically very interesting area, as Iceland is located at the point where the Eurasian and North American continental plates meet. Here you can see with the naked eye the rift created by the separation of the two plates.
If you haven't visited any geysers in Iceland, you've definitely missed out, as the area is a must-see for every Iceland vacationer. The mighty "Great Geyser" and its smaller but very active brother "Strokkur" are located here. The latter erupts at intervals of just 5-10 minutes and has become one of the most popular photo opportunities in the region.
Gullfoss is probably the most famous waterfall in Iceland and should be part of every visit to Iceland. It plunges over two large steps into a narrow canyon. You can also relax in a wonderfully warm thermal water bath in the Blue Lagoon or take a walk along the surf coast in the south.
